On the span in channel assignment problems: bounds, computing and counting
نویسنده
چکیده
The channel assignment problem involves assigning radio channels to transmitters, using a small span of channels but without causing excessive interference. We consider a standard model for channel assignment, the constraint matrix model, which extends ideas of graph colouring. Given a graph G = (V; E) and a length l(uv) for each edge uv of G, we call an assignment : V → {1; : : : ; t} feasible if | (u)− (v)|¿ l(uv) for each edge uv. The least t for which there is a feasible assignment is the span of the problem. We 3rst derive two bounds on the span, an upper bound (from a sequential assignment method) and a lower bound. We then see that an extension of the Gallai-Roy theorem on chromatic number and orientations shows that the span can be calculated in O(n!) steps for a graph with n nodes, neglecting a polynomial factor. We prove that, if the edge-lengths are bounded, then we may calculate the span in exponential time, that is, in time O(c) for a constant c. Finally we consider counting feasible assignments and related quantities. c © 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Bounds for Multiple-Access Relay Channels with Feedback via Two-way Relay Channel
In this study, we introduce a new two-way relay channel and obtain an inner bound and an outer bound for the discrete and memoryless multiple access relay channels with receiver-source feedback via two-way relay channel in which end nodes exchange signals by a relay node. And we extend these results to the Gaussian case. By numerical computing, we show that our inner bound is the same with o...
متن کاملParallelizing Assignment Problem with DNA Strands
Background:Many problems of combinatorial optimization, which are solvable only in exponential time, are known to be Non-Deterministic Polynomial hard (NP-hard). With the advent of parallel machines, new opportunities have been emerged to develop the effective solutions for NP-hard problems. However, solving these problems in polynomial time needs massive parallel machines and ...
متن کاملAn Interval Assignment Problem with Multiple Attributes: A DEA-Based Approach
One of the basic combinatorial optimization problems is the assignment problem that deals with assigning jobs to individuals. In traditional assignment problems, n jobs usually assign to n individuals such that the total cost is minimized or the total profit is maximized. However, in numerous real-life applications, various attributes could be considered in assignment problems while data (obj...
متن کاملFixed Channel Assignment in Cellular Radio Networks Using a Modified Genetic Algorithm
With the limited frequency spectrum and an increasing demand for cellular communication services, the problem of channel assignment becomes increasingly important. However, finding a conflict-free channel assignment with the minimum channel span is NP hard. Therefore, we formulate the problem by assuming a given channel span. Our objective is to obtain a conflict-free channel assignment among t...
متن کاملThree New Systematic Approaches for Computing Heffron-Phillips Multi-Machine Model Coefficients (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper presents three new systematic approaches for computing coefficient matrices of the Heffron-Phillips multi-machine model (K1, …, K6). The amount of computations needed for conventional and three new approaches are compared by counting number of multiplications and divisions. The advantages of new approaches are: (1) their computation burdens are less than 73 percent of that of convent...
